Ashanti Club won the bragging rights in the biggest Tennis clash in the Ashanti Region when they over turned the tables at the expense of their host and rivals 4 Garrison Tennis Club in the doubles of the Barclays Premier Tournament played in Kumasi on Saturday, May 19.
It was a day full of tension, aggression, and competition as both sides had plans of overcoming the other. The singles competition ended with both sides winning three games each and therefore setting high expectations in the doubles which was ultimately won by the away club.
Ashanti club won three out of a total of five games played in the doubles with the two courts been busy at the same time.
In the first game, Kwaku and SAB who paired up for the home side lost 4-7 to Ato and Acheampong who also paired for the away side.
When hopes were high for the hosts to redeem themselves, Nii Kwei and Oleke also lost to Yaw and Little 5-7 in the second doubles. Meanwhile Jona and Figo came 4 Garrison some happiness when they beat Ashanti’s Patrick and Sam 7-2 in the third game.
In the fourth game, Eric and B.B could not draw level for 4 Garrison when they were beaten by Koankum and Korsah of Ashanti, 2-7. But Nana Yaw and Alex gave 4 Garrison some consolation when they defeated Kwasi and Paul y 7-4.
Mr. S.S Abebe who is the President of 4 Garrison Tournament, expressed his displeasure his side failed to do the host and win.
