There was some disappointment on the faces of the home side; 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club as they failed to win the ultimate at the end of the Barclays Bank Sponsored Premier Tennis Tournament.
The Tournament took place at the Danyame home of the 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club on Saturday.
Ashanti Club gave the hosts some stiffer opposition more than what was expected as they won the most matches after the whole Tournament. There two courts used for the Tournament which saw two games been played simultaneously.
4 Garrison Club won three games of the singles as Ashanti Club also won three games. The hosts unfortunately got off to a bad start when Nii Kwei failed to beat Sam of Ashanti in the opening game. Nii Kwei lost to Sam by 3-7.
However, Micheal Dorkye who came into the Tournament as the best ranked club player for 4 Garrison lived up to expectations when he defeated Akwasi Dwomo of Ashanti by 7-5.
There was some controversies in the third game named the battle of the Yaws; between the experienced Yaw Abele of Ashanti and Nana Yaw of 4 Garrison. Abele who was habouring some injury and tiredness decided to play some mental games to demoralize Nana yaw who had been leading in the first two sets. Unfortunately Nana Yaw allowed Abele’s tricks to get to him though there were some complains from his side to the umpire of the day to call Abele to order. At the end of the controversial game which also set the Tournament on fire with much interests from the spectators and players from both sides respectively, Yaw Abele won by 7-5.
The fourth game also got on after another controversy arose. The interesting aspect of the event when both sides decided not to allow the professional players compete. It took the Presidential Powers of Mr. S.S Abebe (President of 4 Garrison club) who ruled that the game between Gyakye of 4 Garrison and Paa Kwaw of Ashanti who are both professionals be called off before the Tournament could continue.

Unfortunately in the fourth game, Kwaku who is a member of the home club gave Little of Ashanti no match when Little won all the sets at ease by 7-0.
The last singles of the day saw Samuel Kyei of 4 Garrison giving the hosts the last laugh when he defeated Acheampong of Ashanti Club 7-4.
