BARCELONA IS THE FIRST CLUB TO CONTRIBUTE PLAYERS FOR ALL THE GROUPS IN A WORLD CUP

After Countries confirmed their 23 men for the FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Russia, it has been established that Barcelona became the first club to feature a player in the eight groups that make up the 2018 World Cup.

The Catalans have 14 players with assured presence in the competition, distributed amongst nine teams. Only in Group D will there be a confrontation between teammates, with Messi’s Argentina facing Croatia on Rakitic on 21 June.


The list of Blaugrana players who will be present at the World Championship.

Group A  : Luis Suárez (Uruguay)
Group B  : Andrés Iniesta, Sérgio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba (Spain)
Group C  : Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembélé (France)
Group D  : Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Ivan Rakitic (Croatia)
Group E  : Marc-André ter Stegen (Germany)
Group F  :Phillipe Coutinho and Paulinho (Brazil)
Group G  : Thomas Vermaelen (Belgium)
Group H  : Yerri Mina (Colombia)

The FIFA Mundial is due to kick off on June 12 in Russia with the final taking place after one month.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and his former club mate Javier Mascherano were in the finals of the last World Cup when Argentina lost by an extra time lone goal to Germany.
