Egypt and Morocco succumbed to late goals in their respective matches played on Day 2 of the 2018 World Cup.
The second match of Group A saw one of Africa’s representative Egypt in action. The Pharaohs lost by a lone goal to the Selection of Uruguay.
Gimenez broke the hearts of Africans when he headed home a free kick at the 89th minute to secure the three points for the 1930 Champions.
Uruguay started the game well and they threatened first through Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Edinson Cavani, who scooped the 2017/18 French Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner.
The lanky marksman forced Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy into a good low save from the edge of the Egypt box just seven minutes into the game.
The Pharaohs were also able to register a shot on target through Trezeguet following a good move by the African side in the 11th minute.
Egypt’s talisman Mohammed Salah was an unused substitute.
Egypt will play the hosts Russia in their second game and must avoid defeat in order not to make an early exit of the Mundial.
