Morocco failed to live up to expectations when they lost by a painful goal to Iran in their Group B opener at the 2018 World Cup.
The big Stadium in St Petersburg was the venue when hopes were high for Morocco to claim the entire three points but Iran had other ideas.
A 95th minute own goal from Aziz Bouhaddouz saw Morocco suffer a 1-0 defeat to Iran in their opening 2018 FIFA World Cup
Morocco started the game with consecutive attacks to find the first goal but the cutting edge was lacking in the final third of the pitch.
Chances in the second half were few and far between with Herve Renard’s men seemingly taking their feet off the pedal whilst the opposition coach Carlos urged his men to go forward.
Iran finally broke the deadlock, against the run of play after an own goal, Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz scored an own goal.
Aziz headed home a free kick from Iran’s Amiri. The win sees Queiroz’s troops moving up to the top of the table for the meantime with three points. The Asians are next in action on June 25 against Portugal.
