C.K AKUNNOR ACCUSES DR. KWAKU FRIMPONG AS THE BRAIN BEHIND HIS DISMISSAL FROM ASHGOLD

Dismissed coach of  Ashanti Gold SC, CK Akonnor has revealed secrets on his sacking from the Obuasi based club.

The former Black Stars Captain accused the club’s majority shareholder, Dr Kwaku Frimpong (Champion) as the brain behind his sack because Dr. Frimpong told him from day one that he preferred to have an expatriate coach to lead the Miners. Akunnor made the revelations when he spoke on Kumasi based radio, FOX FM.

After his dismissal, the CEO of AshGold,  Frederick Acheampong, confirmed that, the decision was based on improper conduct from Akunnor, travelling without permission.

The former Dreams FC Coach partly concedes to travelling without permission but believes the reasons for his sacking were remote rather than immediate.

“We agreed to resume training on Thursday, then on Wednesday I was called at the German embassy, what I didn’t do is not telling him (Frederick Acheampong) ,so on Thursday I went to the German embassy, went there again on Friday and drove back to Obuasi later in the day, so I didn’t train on Thursday and the Friday”, CK Akonnor admitted.

However, Akunnor believes the club didn’t like him to be their coach, as Dr. Kwaku Frimpong is alleged to have told him of his preference for an expatriate coach over an indigenous man.

“Champion met me for the first time and he gave me the signal, Frederick Acheampong wasn’t there, told me he preferred a white (expatriate) coach, so am going to hire a coach, he told me this, then I asked him, if he brings in a coach, then what becomes of me as the coach of the club now”?, Akonnor alleged.

CK Akunnor further claimed that he was never appreciated by his employers, but have always been under criticisms and unsubstantiated allegations against him, making him feel not needed by the club.

“Frederick Acheampong and Champion asked the technical director to monitor me whether I have been taking money (bribe) from the players, they don’t know me” , he said.

“If you work somewhere and you are not appreciated but criticisms then it’s better to leave”, Akonnor concluded.

Asked whether he intends suing Ashanti Gold SC for unfair dismissal, he declined, saying “I once said it but I will never do that”.

He further confirmed that he’s been paid everything due him and will not drag the club through litigation as a legend of the club, especially having also used the platform to enrich his CV.
