The Red Devils of Belgium achieved yet again another great feat in the 2018 FIFA World Cup when they placed third after beating the Three Lions of England 2-0 to clinch the the bronze medal.
Thomas Munier got the first goal for the Red Devils after which captain Eden Hazard added the second one to make it two in the second half.
England did not exhibit much urgency to win the game as they looked sluggish on attack. Harry Kane and Rahim Sterling failed to capitalize on the numerous chances created to get the goals for the three Lions.
SIX WINS BUT NO CUP
The Belgians who beat England (2-0) in the match for third and fourth place in Russia 2018 on Saturday , joined Poland, Italy and the Netherlands by winning their sixth World Cup victory and not achieve the title.
The team led by Roberto Martínez won in the group stage to Panama (3-0), Tunisia (5-2) and England (1-0), in the round of 16 to Japan (3-2), in the quarterfinals to Brazil (2-1) and in the ‘end of consolation’ back to the set of the ‘three lions’ (2-0).
The same happened to Poland in the 1974 World Cup in Germany (third place), to Italy at home in 1990 (third place) and to the Netherlands in South Africa 2010 (runner-up).
Likewise, ten Belgian players have scored in this World Cup, which equals the record that France had in Spain 1982 and Italy in Germany 2006 .
For the ‘red devils’ scored in Russia 2018 Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Adnan Januzaj, Michy Batshuayi, Dries Mertens, Jan Vertonghen, Marouane Fallaini, Nacer Chadli, Kevin de Bruyne and Thomas Meunier .
