The Confederation of African Football’s decision to remove Sierra Leone from African football has come as a good news for Ghana.
Ghana gains an outright qualification to the 2019 African Cup of Nations together with Kenya in Group F. The two sides still have another match between themselves to clear.
FIFA’s decision to suspend Sierra Leone from football matters means the Black Stars of Ghana sealed their participation ticket.
The Black Stars lag behind the Harambee Stars of Kenya by a point after beating Ethiopia 2-0 in Addis Ababa.
The decision to delete Sierra Leone was taken in Accra during an Executive Committee meeting on Friday, Mr. Nick Mwendwa,The President of Kenya Football Federation (KFF) revealed.
“The Extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of Caf met in Accra, Ghana on Friday (November 30),” Mwendwa said.
“One of the decisions made at the meeting was to remove Sierra Leone from the list of competitors in our group.
“We are now waiting for the official letter from Caf, but we have already qualified. We expect the letter from Caf this week.”
Ghana have joined Kenya, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, Mali, Guinea, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Mauritania and Madagascar at the finals.
