Ghana’s lone ranger in the CAF inter club competitions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will have to overcome Cameroon’s Coton Sport in order to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup 2018.
This was revealed after the draw held in Cairo by the CAF Inter clubs Competition Committee.
Kotoko will play the first leg of the two legged affair away on the weekend of 11-13 January, 2019 and then host Coton Sport in Kumasi on the weekend of 18th to 20th January, 2019.
The Porcupine Warriors eliminated Kariobangi Sharks of Kenya in a 2-1 aggregate scoreline to reach this level. But prior to that Kotoko had a walk over in their preliminary qualifier after their Cameroonian opponents failed to report. This was as a result of FECAFOOT’s failure to name a team for the competition.
Asante Kotoko aim to reach the group stage of the competition, and coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor’s quest of leading his troops to that target faces a challenge from the fellow West African club who are record winners of the country’s domestic league with 15 titles.
