Kumasi Asante Kotoko took a bold step towards qualification for the quarter finals of the CAF Confederations Cup when they took all three points against Nkana FC of Zambia.
Kotoko beat Nkana FC 3-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, March 3, 2019.
The Porcupine |Warriors had lost 1-3 to the opponents at Kitwe last week before the reverse fixture in Kumasi.
With their vociferous fans behind them in full support with their songs and chants, Kotoko started the game on the front foot pinning the visitors in their own half with the likes of Kwame Bonsu and Abdul Fatawu Safiu dictating the pace.
Nkana Goalkeeper Allan Chibw, could not cope with the consistent pressure from Kotoko right from the start of the game.
It was no surprise when he failed to act upon been called to duty from a free-kick taken by Kotoko’s Fatawu.
The second goal was registered on the 23rd minute when Emmanuel Gyamfi tapped in a shot from Songne Yakuba.
Gyamfi then had to be replaced by Kwame Boahen as he sustained an injury that made it impossible for him to continue.
It was a day for Kotoko to disclose their expertise in set pieces as Martin Antwi also slotted home a pretty free kick with his left foot to make it 3-0 for the Kumasi lads.
Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi then had to quickly replace goalkeeper Chibwe for Kelvin Malunga in the 30th minute as he varied his tactics.
The second half was a different story as Nkana controlled the game, but failed to find the back of the net for even a consolation till proceedings ended.
The win pushes Kotoko to six points tied on Nkana, one shy of leaders El Hilal of Sudan who beat Zesco of Zambia 3-1 in the other group C clash in Omdurman.
