The Competitions Committee of the Confederation of African Football have given former champions, Al Ahly the security clearance to increase the supporter cap for their final CAF Champions League Group D match on Saturday.
The Red Devils will host Algerian side JS Saoura at the Borg El Arab Stadium. The Egyptian club announced on Tuesday that they have been given permission to up the number of supporters allowed into the venue from 10,000 to 15,000.
Due to security concerns, Egyptian authorities have limited the number of fans allowed inside stadiums in recent years.
“We received official approval to increase the fans at the match at Alexandria’s Borg El Arab Stadium to 15,000 instead of the previously approved number [10,000],” Ahly said in a statement on their official website.
“We would like to thank the authorities for supporting Ahly as Egypt’s sole representative at the Champions League by responding to the club’s request to increase the number of supporters in the stands.”
Ahly enter the final game placed second on the Group D log. They need to defeat Saoura in order to guarantee progression into the quarterfinals, though a draw may also be enough, depending on the result of the other group match between Simba and AS Vita in Dar es Salaam.
Both matches kick off at 18h00 CAT.
