The Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) have withdrawn the strike action taken against the Normalization Committee |(NC) of Ghana Football Association.
The suspension of the strike was announced by the |Executives of RAG after a crunch meeting with the Committee members and the Ministry of Youth and SPORTS.
The strike was initiated by the referees as a result of their unpaid allowances. |Various calls on the |NC to pay the knights of the whistle have proven futile, therefore the call for the strike action.
The official communique released by RAG was as follows:
“We write to inform you that the Referees Association of Ghana after
carefully deliberating on your failure to redeem your promise of paying
all outstanding officiating fees owed our members before close of April
2019, we decided to call on all our members to suspend handling all
football match officiating at all levels and at all league centers from
tomorrow, 7th May 2019”.
“RAG is compelled to take this tough decision because several letters were written drawing your attention to the unpaid officiating allowances and other things which were consistently not attended to. All RAG members owed are finding it difficult to travel to match venues due to the unpaid allowances.
This raised a red alert as it threatened the special cup matches to be played on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, the Ministry officials then quickly organised the meeting to calm tempers and allow the matches to be played.
The Normalization Committee have subsequently announced that the Match Day 10 games would go on as scheduled.
