Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil has called on the current players of the Senior National Team, to repay the confidence shown in them by the coach.
Paintsil urged the players of the Black Stars to play their hearts out for the Nation and the coach specifically. He spoke on Kwese Sports’ Football360 on Sunday evening.
“ When I was playing for the Black Stars, my first motivation was to play for the coach because if he doesn’t like me, he would not have called me to play for the team.” the former Westham right back said.
“Therefore, I am urging Dede Ayew and his colleagues to play for the coach, they should pay back the confidence the coach has given them to play for the National Team” Paintsil continued.
The Black Stars coach James Kwasi Appiah has come under intense criticism after his side recorded two consecutive draws in the African Cup of Nations, Egypt 2019.
Ghana drew 2-2 with Benin in their first game and also 0-0 with defending champions Cameroon on Saturday. Bothe matches were played at the Ismailia Stadium.
Ghana face Guinea Bissau in a make or break game at Suez on Tuesday, 2nd July, 2019 at 16:00 GMT.
With just two points from two games, the Black Stars have to win their last game against Guinea Bissau in order to secure qualification to the next round.
Paintsil expressed full confidence in the team to win their last group game, “ I am very confident Ghana would beat Guinea Bissau and qualify, the guys are experienced and know what to do to win at this time.”
