Obuasi Ashanti Gold Sporting Club were crowned winners of the Benjamin Kyem Edusie Cup against Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The match was played on Sunday 1st September, 2019 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the drizzling rains gave some cool temperature to the atmosphere.
The Miners from Obuasi had to resort to a 4-3 penalty shootouts before beating the Porcupine Warriors. Both sides had failed to score within the 90 minutes of action.
Kotoko’s goalkeeper and captain, Felix Annan was able to save two kicks from but Amos Nkrumah scored the decisive one for Ashgold after Salifu Mudasiru had missed for Kotoko.
Asante Kotoko will also take on their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, September 8, 2019 in the President’s Cup.
Both Ashgold and Kotoko will be very busy in two weeks time as they return to compete in African Clubs Competition.
Ashgold will take on RS Berkane of Morocco in the CAF Confederations Cup whereas Kotoko take on Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in the CAF Champions League.
