Okwawu United won the maiden Eastern Cup after beating Kade United 3-0 in the final on Sunday, 1st September, 2019.
The Eastern Cup Special Competition was organised by the Eastern Regional Football to give clubs in the region platform to keep shape as we await the start of proper football in Ghana.
The final was played at the Theatre of Dreams, Dawu as Kade United failed to match the current of Okwawu United.
The goals were scored by Kelvin Tetteh (two) and MaClean Ampadu which saw the Asaase Aban lads breaking their 33 year record of winning a trophy. They lost 2-1 to Bechem United in the finals of MTN FA Cup in 2016.
Okwawu were rewarded with and amount of GHc 5000 as winners and Kade United pocketing Ghc 3000.
“ I’m the most happiest man on earth now ,” an elated Okwahu United coach Adolf Adu Botwe said after the game.
“This is a trophy we have been looking for over the past five months; and I’m happy that during my tenure in charge and as an indigene of Okwahuman, we have finally won the trophy.” He continued.
“So far, so good with Okwahu United and as you can see, we have been very consistent over the past few months; we were beaten in the Eastern Cup Quarter Finals few weeks by Top Heroes in their own yard but won on penalties 4-3. We have finally won the Eastern Cup trophy this year and also currently being the best club in the Eastern Regional Professional Football.” He concluded.
