Ghana football is expected to be the winner when stakeholders converge for the Extraordinary Congress of Ghana Football Association to discuss essential matters of concern.
The session will come off on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the Surgeons Hall in Accra at 9:00 am.
This will be the first time stakeholders of Ghana Football will converge officially after the Anas Expose on Football dubbed “Number 12” in June 2018.
The then President of the GFA Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi was then banned by CAF and FIFA with respect to his dealings as reveled in the video. Other core members of the Association were also seen taking sums of money for one reason or the other and have since recoiled into their shells.
Football was brought to a halt for some months before Kumasi Asante gave football lovers some delight when they participated in the 2018/19 CAF Confederations Cup.
The Dr. Kofi Amoah led Normalisation Committee was brought in to see to the proper restructuring of football in all aspects but have been marred with various controversies including the dismissal of one of its members Lawyer Dua Adonteng and the resignation of Madam Lucy Quist.
Former Black Stars and Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour was then drafted in to help reshape Ghana Football. The Head of Communications for the Committee, Dan Kweku Yeboah has also resigned recently.
The Committee have also come under various criticisms by the “football people” and media for various reasons as they are seen as repeating most of the wrong practices by the former GFA administration.
Apart from the respective competitions for the various National Teams, the Normalisation Committee have organised the Special Cup; Tier One for Premier League Clubs and Tier Two for Premier League and Division One clubs combined.
Dr. Amoah will address the august gathering on the work done by the Normalisation Committee so far and what should be expected. The core mandate of the Committee was to enact the necessary changes in the statues of the GFA and its adoption. They are expected to complete their work this month.
The Extra-Ordinary Congress seek to pave way for fresh elections for a new President of the Association and other executive positions as well as changes in the administrative structure of the GFA. This will be discussed in the adoption of election regulations.
The focus of the Congress will be on the new Statues for the GFA and its adoption. Some members of the former Executive Committee of the GFA have criticized the changes made in the statues and have vowed not to allow the changes to be effected.
Various Committees will also be given attention and necessary approval for various sections of the Association. A representative from the World’s Football Governing body, FIFA is expected to address members of the extraordinary Congress.
The NC have also communicated that persons who were allegedly caught on the Anas exposé have been barred from attending the session.
