Ghana’s Black Meteors defied all odds to qualify for the CAF under 23 Championship after pipping Algeria by a lone goal.
Ibrahim Tanko’s side only needed a second half goal from captain Yaw Yeboah to make it for the tournament to be held in Egypt.
The goal was scored on the 73rd minute after the Celta Vigo B based winger had to force his way through three Algeria players to slot the ball pass the goal keeper in post for the young Foxes.
The Algerians were tipped to qualify after exposing the Meteors in the first leg played in Accra last Thursday which ended 1-1.
The match was played in the Algerian city of Setif on Tuesday night. Coach Ibrahim Tanko made some few changes in his starting line up with respect to that of the first leg in Accra.
Preparations ahead of the last round of qualifiers against the young Foxes were not the best after players were made to buy their own flight tickets to Ghana. On their way to the airport for the second leg, they were made to resort to taxis for transportation.
Ghana now joins the likes of Egypt (host), Cameroon, Cote d’voire, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia to compete for a slot out of the three for Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
