Obuasi Ashantigold Sporting Club threw a two goal lead away when they won by 3-2 against RS Berkane of Morocco in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Ashgold played host to Berkane at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Saturday, 14th September, 2019.
The Aboakese lads began the game on a brighter note when they got the first goal as early as the 15th minute through an Eric Donkor non-drop volley.
They were unlucky when Shafui’s freekick hit the bar on the 19th minute which would have been the second goal.
Their unrelenting efforts were rewarded when captain Shafiu Mumuni sloted the ball in between the legs of the Berkane goal keeper and his defender.
They then went into the break with a cool two goal lead with fans much optimistic about the results of the day.
The second half became a nightmare for the home fans when Berkane drew one back after just 4 minutes of play in the second half.
Ashgold’s defence failed to deal with a free kick which was headed home by Mohammed Aziz.
The entire stadium turned into a cemetery when Berkane got the second goal and equalizer from a defensive blunder by half fit Osei Agyemang who failed to clear an incoming ball.
Hamdi Laachir then punished Ashgold with a low thunder bolt to the right corner of Frank Boateng’s net and within five minutes Berkane had drawn level.
But the agitated Obuasi fans did not go home empty handed when Amos Addai’s low cross was deflected into the net by Mohammed Farehane to make it 3-2.
Now the Miners would have to go to Morocco to defend the slim margin in a fortnight.
