Ghana Black Queens placed 3rd in the just ended 10th African Women’s Cup of Nations that was held in Cameroun.
Black Queens beat South Africa’s Bayana Bayana 1- 0 in the 3rd place match after they had lost to the host Nation Cameroun 0-1 in the semi finals.
The planed demonstration is against the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the outstanding bonuses which are yet to be paid and most especially plane fares of which the foreign based players paid for from their own pockets.
Florence Dadson, striker for the Queens has confirmed the the demonstration will take place on Wednesday, 21st December, 2016. Florence further emphasised that they have given the Ministry, headed by Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuyie up to Monday, 19th December, 2016 to pay or be ready for the demonstration.
It will be recalled that the Super Falcons of Nigeria who won the tournament also marched to the General Assembly of Nigeria to demonstrate against the government for unpaid allowances.
Moreover, the Queens did a similar demonstration when they were not paid their allowances after winning gold at the Women’s football during the last All African Games. They decided to stay in their hotel until the Ministry paid them their dues allowances. It took the intervention of the President, His Excellency John Mahama for some of the outstanding bonuses to be paid before the ladies left the hotel for their respective locations.
The climax of these mishappenings was reached in Brazil during the 2014 FIFA World Cup when the Black Stars; male counterparts of the Queens refused to train until their $100,000 qualification bonus was paid them respectively. This brought Ghana into an unfortunate international attention, causing the nation a huge embarrassment.
We hope the Ministry of Youth and Sports would work in time to save themselves and the nation from another embarrassment because of National teams’ allowances.
