AFCON 2017: QF3 and QF4 Preview

After Cameroon and Burkina Faso booking their place in the 2017 Total African Cup of Nations Semi final, the final two places are up for grasp as two intriguing matches are to be played today.

DR Congo will take on the Black Stars of Ghana at 16:00GMT at Oyem in the 3rd Quarter final game of the 2017 AFCON. The Black Stars of Ghana has reached at least the semi finals since 2008 and knows anything short of a semi final place will be a disappointment.

Ghana heads into the game as favourites but DR Congo who topped a group comprising of defending champions, Cote D’Ivoire, Morocco and Togo meant they are not just pushovers. Topscorer, Junior Kabananga will lead their charge to ensure they beat Ghana and secure a place in the semi finals.

The Black Stars will hope to improve on their heartbreaking second place in 2015 and win the title since 1982 but they know only a win can keep their dream alive.

The winner of DR Congo vs Ghana will meet Cameroon in the semi finals at Franceville on Thursday.

The last quarter final game will see an all North African affair as Egypt lock horns with Morocco at Port-Gentil.

Egypt topped their group and are the only side in the competition yet to conceed a goal. They take on Herve Rehnard’s Morocco who will like to become the first manager to win the AFCON trophy with 3 different countries. Egypt have won all the last 4 trophies they have reached the semis and Hector Kuiper will know a semi final place will be the minimum for the 7 times champions.

The winner of this game will meet Burkina Faso on Wednesday at Libreville.

Catch all updates live.
