FIFA referee Joseph Lamptey has apologised to Ghanaians for his poor judgement in the World Cup Qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal.
Refree Lamptey was suspended by FIFA and CAF for giving the Bafana Bafana a penalty which did not hit the hand of the Senegalese defender as first seen by the Ghanaian referee.
Senegal lodged a protest with CAF over the performance of the referee at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
It is an established fact that there is no Ghanaian referee nor assistant referee at the Total African Cup in Gabon. And it is believed that if not for that poor judgement and subsequent suspension, he would have been called for duty at the tournament.
He said “I am very sorry that there is no Ghanaian referee in the on going African Cup of Nations ”
” My suspension is due to end in February and I am ready to come back and give Ghanaians a better performance”.
He spoke on GTV sports.
