This is the 18 Grand slam champion 15th win out of 16 games and 2017 has been a great year for the Australian Open champion.

“I feel like I earned it more,” said Federer. “I was more the aggressor. It was more my racket, and I like it that way.”

Stan Wawrinka overcame the powerful Tunisian Malek Jaziri 6-3 6-4 to reach the next stage while Nick Krygios of Britain beat Ivo Karlovic 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2).

In the Women’s division, German Angelique Kerber beat Risa Ozaki of Japan 6-2 6-2 to advance to the quarters while Dane Caroline Wozniacki beat a dizzy Garbine Muruguza of Spain to advance. Muruguza has to retire after she claimed she felt dizzy before the start of the second set. The Spanish felt the dizziness when down 7-6 (7-1)

“I started normal, and then like at 3-3 or something like this I started to feel headache, pain in my stomach,” said Muguruza. “And then it kind of went more and more during the match.

“When I was getting to the 5-4, something like this, I started to feel a little bit dizzy. I think it was the heat. The heat affected me suddenly like that.”

The win means Wozniacki will face Lucie Safarova who eased pass Slovak Dominika Cibulkova 7-6 (7-5) 6-1.

Karolina Pliskova saw off fellow woman Barbora Strycova 6-1 6-4 while elder sister of Serena Williams, Venus Williams saw off Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 7-6 (7-4).
