Ghana succumbed to USA in the second US friendly Tour as they lost 2-1 to the White Stripes of the USA.
The Black Stars had already lost 1-0 to the El Tricolor of Mexico and was going into the second friendly hoping to record a win over their favourite rivals.
Ghana beat USA in the 2006 and 2010 World Cup by 2-1 but lost by the same scoreline in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Black Stars manager, Katakyie Dr. James Akwasi Appiah made five changes to the lineup that lost to Mexico recalling back captain, Asamoah Gyan.
David Accam, Rashid Sumaila, Jerry Akaminko and Mohammed Abu were all given a starting role against the USA.
The match started on a fair note with both side cautious of attacking play. It took 15 minutes for the game to spark into life as USA through Kellyn Acosta who was unable to beat goalkeeper, Richard Ofori from close range when put through on goal.
USA finally took the lead through Dominic Dwyer in the 24th minute after Frank Acheampong slipped allowing Kellyn Acosta to send Dwyer through on goal to hand the White Stripes the lead.
Ghana had the chance in the final minute of the first half to get the equaliser after a penalty was awarded for a foul on Raphael Dwamena in the box but the penalty from captain Asamoah Gyan was of no power allowing former Aston Villa goalkeeper, Brad Guzan to save comfortably. The first half ended 1-0.
USA came strongly in the second and got the second through Kellyn Acosta via a free kick before the same was replicated by Asamoah Gyan to reduce the deficit. That was the Ghana’s attacker 51st international goal in an international career spanning over 13 years.
Ghana pushed for the equaliser but was not to get it as the game ended 2-1 to the host.
This means all 4 encounters between USA and Ghana has ended in 2-1 scoreline with both sides winning two apiece.
