Barcelona will play Chapencoense in a friendly and ahead of that one of the Chapecoense’s plane crash survivors, Alan Ruschel will play against Barcelona.
The Brazilian team were travelling to play in the Copa Sudamericana final first leg against Atletico Nacional last November when their plane carrying the players, staff and journalists had a crash killing almost all except six including Alan Ruschel.
Ruschel, 27, who plays as a center back needed surgery on a serious back injury but has now resumed training.
A statement published on Chapecoense website ahead of their friendly against Barcelona read;
“Chapecoense can confirm that after a joint decision by the board, the department of football and the player himself, who is fit to play, the official return of Alan”.
“Alan’s return represents an important step in his recovery and in the process of rebuilding the squad”, the statement continued.
“Considering the magnitude of this match against a great Spanish team, in one of the temples of world football, we recognise that the game represents the ideal occasion for his return”, the statement added.
Barcelona will play Chapecoense in the Joan Gamper Trophy as a curtain raiser to usher the club for the start of the season at Camp Nou.
