Former President of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kuffour has commended the Ghana Football Association for bringing back James Akwasi Appiah to handle the Black Stars.
During a visit by some media men, the former first gentleman said he is very happy to have seen Akwasi coming back to take over the national team.
” I would like to thank the GFA Executives for reaching agreement to bring back Akwasi Appiah, he is our own and that is what we need as a country”.
He went on to explain thus” Avram Grant was brought in and he complained he cannot use the local players because their standard is low, yet he was not even staying in this country to help change the situation”.
“Akwasi Appiah has been a former player, he is our own former coach and so understands the terrain very well,so it is prudent for such a person to be given the opportunity to handle the team for us”. President Kuffour continued.
He also criticized the Israeli Coach, “Avram Grant said our system is not good for the local players because their income is very low, yet he was collecting $50,000 and was always outside and not contributing anything good for our us”.
President J.A Kuffour then asked for support for Akwasi Appiah so that he can do better, “I am asking the GFA and all Ghanaians to do their best and support Akwasi Appiah because he is our own and will always be with us”.
“He will not send our monies outside as Grant did, it will remain here and that will also help our economy as a country”. Ex President Kuffour said.
Ghana qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2006 when J.A Kuffour was president.
