Coach of Ghana Black Stars, Kwasi Appiah has called for proper structures to be put in place to ensure Ghana produces another African best and also win trophies.
Coach Kwasi Appiah spoke to www. Ghanamansports.com at the 2017 AITEO CAF Awards held in Accra on Thursday, January 4th.
“I think we must all come together to ensure we produce another African best, the Technical team, Football Association, Players and supporters must all come on board for us to work together to achieve this” Kwasi said.
” In order to achieve this with our players, we need to win trophies and that can only be achieved if there is proper planning”, the Black Stars coach emphasised.
He continued by explaining that “we need to sit down and plan very well ahead of time, especially to qualify for the next world cup in Qatar, we must start planning now, its not about the coaches and players, it is about management and the structures, if the proper structures are put in place, we shall all see what are looking for”.
Kwasi Appian went on to explain that ” we need to sit back and reflect on why Ghana has not produced any African best since 1992, we need to plan ahead and ensure the players are well prepared for the big competitions. We need to avoid the era of waiting till time catches up with us before we put in hasty planning for competitions.”
It must be recalled that Abedi Ayew Pele was the last Ghanaian to have won the award in 1994. The closest has been Samuel Osei Kuffour who placed second in 2001. But recently, Asamoah Gyan and Andre Dede Ayew have won the BBC African player of the year.
He also commended Mohammed Salah for winning the best player award, ” I think they gave it to him looking at the fact that Egypt has been out of the competition ( World Cup) for a long time, he took them to the World Cup, so it is difficult to say he doesn’t deserve it”. Kwasi concluded.
