CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE MATCHES KICKOFF WITH RENEWED RIVALRIES

The 2018 edition of the CAF Champions League starts on Friday evening as clubs renew their long term rivalries.

A total of Eight matches will be played at the group stages of the Tournament from Friday to Sunday.

Group A

Group A will witness an intense fight between Egypt’s Al Ahly and Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis.

Al Ahly will play host to Esperance de Tunis in the 2018 CAF Champions League Group A match at the Borg Al Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Friday.

Kick-off is at 17h00 GMT.

The Egyptian powerhouse knocked out Gabonese giants CF Mounana in the first round after being given a bye in the preliminary round.

Al Ahly, who have won this competition a record eight times, are targeting their ninth trophy this year.

Their head coach Hossam El-Badry will be hoping to mastermind a victory over a resilient Esperance side at home.

Meanwhile, Esperance qualified for the group stage after overcoming Mauritanian club ASAC Concorde and Kenyan side Gor Mahia in the qualifying rounds.

The Tunisian giants, who are two-time Champions League winners, are keen to clinch their third title this year.

Taha Yassine Khensissi and Anice Badri are Esperance’s danger men, and they have the ability to inspire their team to victory against Al Ahly.

New Entrants clash

Botswana’s Township Rollers will face Ugandan club Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC in the other Group A game on Friday.

The Botswana giants reached the group stage after eliminating Sudanese giants Al Merrikh and Tanzanian champions Young Africans.

Rollers are making their first appearance in the group stage and they will be hoping to qualify for the knockout stages.

Rollers head coach Nikola Kavazovic will hoping that influential attackers Joel Mogorosi and Segolame Boy inspire his side to victory in their opening group match.

Meanwhile, KCCA booked their place in the group stage after overcoming Madagascar champions CNAPS and Ethiopian giants Saint George in the qualifying rounds.

The Ugandan giants are also making their debut in the group stage and will be targeting a winning start in Group A.

Highly-rated young striker Muhammad Shaban will be unleashed by KCCA head coach Mike Mutebi against Rollers.
