Zinedine Zidane and Dider Deschamps will go head to head for the 2018 FIFA Coach of the year after the Federation for International Football Associations (FIFA) released the list of men to compete for the coach of the year award.
The eleven-man shortlist for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2018 award – based on their respective achievements during the period from 3 July 2017 to 15 July 2018 inclusive – has been compiled by a panel of FIFA Legends.
The fan vote will be equally weighted alongside the votes of other key members of the footballing community – namely journalists, national team coaches and captains. The three finalists for each award will be revealed at a later date, with all award winners revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in London on 24 September.
The list contains National Team coaches and clubs based coaches going head to head to compete for the award.
National Team Coaches
French Coach Dider Deschamps leads the list of National team coaches who exelled at the just ended 2018 FIFA World Cup. The others are Croatia’s Zlatko Dalic who led his side to their first ever major final, Roberto Martinez of Belgium, Gareth South Gate of England and Russia’s Stanislav Cherchesov.
Real Madrid’s unprecedented third consecutive win of the UEFA Champions League gave their former coach Zinedine Zidane the chance to lead this list. Barcelona’s double also sees coach Ernesto Valverde been nominated. Maximilliano Allegri who also won double with Juventus is included. Others are Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, the Champions of UEFA Europa League. Jürgen Klopp of Liverpool, Josep Guardiola of Manchester City.
