Ghana’s lone ranger, Kumasi Asante Kotoko were pipped to a one nil defeat by Sudanese side Al Hilal in the 2018/19 season of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine warriors traveled to Khartoum for the first round of matches in Group C of the CAF Confederations Cup.
A goal scored by Waleed Bakhet Hamid in the first half was enough to claim all three points for the North Africans. Although there was much effort to level, Kotoko failed to at least get a point.
Coach C.K Akunnor made only one change to his starting line up from the previous game against Coton Sport.
Abas Mohammed was unable to travel with the team to Sudan so captain Amos Frimpong was shifted to the left back position with Augustine Sefa taking the right side of defence.
In the other fixture in the group, Zesco United on Sunday shot to the top of Group C following an efficient 2-0 home win over Nkana in their opening clash Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Kotoko are due to play Zesco United in Kumasi in 10 days time with Nkana hosting Hilal in Lusaka.
The 2017 quarter finalist went top on goal difference after Al Hilal of Sudan beat Ghana giants Asante Kotoko 1-0 at home in Khartoum in a simultaneous Group C kick off.
