Zamaleke win their first Confederations Cup trophy

Zamaleke FC have won their first ever CAf Confederations Cup after beating AS Berkane of Morroco 5-4 on penalties.

The second leg was played on Saturday 23rd May, 2019 at the Borg El Arab Stadium, Alexandria.

The Egyptian giants last won a continental trophy in 2003 when they lifted the CAF Super Cup. They had previously won the 2002 CAf Champions League.

The club has 5 CAF Champions League titles, 3 CAF Super Cup titles and 1 African Cup Winners Cup title. Internationally, Zamalek has also won 2 Afro-Asian titles.

After suffering some dip in form and inconsistent performance, Zamaleke came from a goal down to win 1-0 in the second leg. The subsequent penalty shoot out went in their favour.

Zamaleke would be given an amount of US$1.25 million and AS Berkane taking US$0.625 million for placing second.
