Black Meteors seek to qualify for 2020 Olympic games

The Black Meteors of Ghana will be looking foward to breaking the 15 year jinx of missing out in the Olympic Games. This will be their main motivation as they play their first game in the African U-23 Championship.

The Black Meteors will take on Cameroon in their first game in the tournament being hosted by Egypt.

The match takes place on Friday night in Cairo and kick off is 7:00 pm GMT.

Since the introduction of the U23 AFCON in 2011, to serve as at the continental qualifier for the Olympics, this is the first time Ghana have qualified for the eight-team tournament.

But Coach Ibrahim Tanko led his charges to alter the fortunes of the Meteors after beating Algeria in the two legged affair of qualification to enter the African U-23 Championship for the first time.

Ghana last qualified for the Olympic games football competition in 2004 when they were eliminated after the group matches.

Ghana’s starting eleven are as follows :

Kingsley Fobi, Edward Sarpong, Fuseini Zakaria, Mohammed Habid,

Simon Zibo, Isaah Abass, Michael Agbekponu, Kwabena Owusu

Evans Mensah and Yaw Yeboah.
