Former Board Secretary of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr. Ernest Thompson has called for sanctions against Kotoko and Aduana FC.
He asked for the sanctions in the wake of the drama that unfolded at the Dormaa Park on Wednesday during the Match Day 11 fixture between the two former league winners.
Mr Thompson expressed his disappointment in an interaction with the media.
“They brought the game into disrepute and must be heavily sanctioned.” He lamented.
“There is a difference if one team decides to play with 10 players. But where you see a vivid deliberate orchestration based on other factors other football the rules must be interpreted functional with the purpose to achieve its real intent,” the former SSNIT boss continued.
Mr Thompson, who doubles as a lawyer also made reference to the laws of the game, “finally that rule which is allows you to use 7 players is not meant to be used as a sword to perpetuate such impunity and destroy the sporting integrity of the game.
Its meant to be a shield to defend yourself in situations due to circumstance beyond control. Giving the rule a literal interpretation will destroy the game”.
He then called for respect for the football fans who watch the league;
“Clubs should not do these deliberate acts which show gross disrespect to the crowd which have paid to enjoy football and not to destroy a brand which is even struggling to seek sponsors for it and even the individual teams, he concluded.
Aduana FC beat Asante Kotoko 1-0 in the said fixture.
