Former Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has called on the media to desist from causing division in the Black Stars.
Gyan lamented on the unnecessary tension these divisions cause in the National Team.
“There are some media men in Ghana who are on the pay roll of some players. So they always want to destroy other players in the players they support,” Gyan told Kwabena Yeboah on GTV Sports Highlight.”
The 34 year old striker went on to explain how these acts destroy the players psychologically, “I have a thick skin to deal with these things, but what about the other players?
Gyan went on to emphasis that it is not prudent to discuss players’ winning bonus or allowance in the public domain.
“I do not think it is a good idea to discuss our winning bonus in public, it only happens in Ghana, we do not see that in other countries and that’s why it always brings tension to the players in the National Team”, he explained.
Gyan is the leading goal scorer for Ghana with 51 goals in 109 appearances. He is one of the longest serving players after getting his debut in 2003 against Somalia in a World Cup Qualifier.
He served as captain of the National team from 2013 to 2019 after which it was given to Andres Dede Ayew. This led to controversies which forced Gyan to retire from the team before been called back by the President of the State, Nana Akufo Addo.
