McDan Foundation has cut sod for the construction of a 5 million dollar sports complex at Teshie in Accra.
This was disclosed during a ceremony to unveil the project at Teshie in Accra on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.
The Teshie Star Park was handed to Wembley Sports Construction Co. Ltd, the company to ensure the realization of the project. The complex is expected to be completed in six (6) months time.
The new Teshie Sports Complex will constitute two artificial pitches, spectator stands, changing rooms, public washrooms, ceremonial sheds, floodlights, and a hostel.
The multi-purpose complex is expected to cater to over twenty indoor and outdoor sporting disciplines in the community as one of the measures to develop the capacity of the youth through sports and the provision of sporting infrastructures. This would go a long way to provide services and job opportunities to the people in the community.
Mr Daniel Mckorley, CEO and Chairman of McDan Group expressed his delight and readiness to contribute to the development of the Teshie Community.
He also expressed the opinion that the project would be leaving residents with a good space for sports, recreational activity, and community involvement. This would also go on to help unearth sports talent for the country and also assist in the improvement of health for the inhabitants of the town.
Deputy Minister for Health and MP for Ledzokuku Constituency, Dr. Bernard Oko Boye commended McDan Foundation for the construction of the ultra-modern complex and urged the people of Teshie to be thankful to them. “To see this handing-over ceremony is exciting for me.
I’m looking forward to seeing the children being able to play on the soccer fields and the revenue will generate for tourism and local municipalities. This will go a long way to improve the quality of life of the people of Teshie.”
“We’re committed to creating impact facilities in Ghana” Mr Frank Ofosu Oduro, the Coordinator of McDan Foundation also expressed his satisfaction to all stakeholders who pushed for the commencement of the project.
So, we feel incredibly privileged to be helping with the construction of this facility which will be a great boost to the local economy. Not only will it provide jobs, both in the building and running of the facility, but it also gives the community opportunities to make money through sports tournaments and conventions.” Mr. Ofosu Oduro revealed.
Former Black Stars player, Laryea Kingson was a special guest during the sod cutting ceremony.
Laryea native of Teshie, also expressed his gratitude to McDan Company. “This facility provides the youth of Teshie with that space that will be keeping them occupied and promoting strong relationships through sports leagues and recreational activities. It is also beneficial for parents who work and need a safe spot for their children to go after school.” he said.
