Ghana poised to beat South Africa in World Cup Qualifier

Ghana Black Stars have arrived in Johannesburg ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

The Stars beat Ethiopia 1-0 in the last World Cup Qualifier played at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday. The goal was scored by Mubarak Wakaso. Ghana needs to beat the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to remain on top of the group.

South Africa also drew 0-0 with neighbours Zimbabwe on Friday and would push to beat Ghana in order to get 4 points. The two sides would clash at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday at 16:00 GMT.

Ghana would have to do without some key players as a result of covid-19 and the relative travelling restrictions especially those who play in the English Premier League. The list includes Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Jeffrey Schlupp (Leicester City), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Andrew Yiadom (Reading FC) and Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC).

Ghana touches down in Johannesburg ahead of South Africa duel

France based Kamal Deen Suleymana who plays for Rennes and Daniel Kyereh of German side St. Pauli have been recalled by their clubs and would also miss the all important game.

Ghana would be represented by the following players:

Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori, Richard Atta, Manaf Nurudeen, Lawrence Ati-Zigi

Defenders: Philemon Baffuor, Gideon Mensah, Ismail Ganiyu, Alexander Djiku, Jonathan Mensah, Samuel Ashie Quaye, Joseph Aidoo, Fatawu Mohammed

Midfielders: Mubarak Wakaso, Baba Iddrisu, Emmanuel Lomotey, Majeed Ashimeru, Fatawu Issahaku, Samuel Owusu, Yaw Yeboah

Forwards: Andre Ayew, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Joel Fameyeh, Braydon Manu, Kwame Opoku, Emmanuel Gyasi.
