FC Barcelona have finally obtained their long search for a response to their arch-rivals, Real Madrid dominance recently in Spain. The Culers have announced the purchase of striker Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern Munchen.
The Spanish giants have announced the purchase of the Polish striker with a fee of 45m Euros plus 5m Euros in add-ons. The 33-year-old player will be working for FC Barcelona from now till his contract runs out 2026.
Lewandowski’s signing is identified as a step in the right direction for Barcelona. He is expected to compete with Madrid’s Karim Benzema for the top scorer in Spain.
The Polish striker comes in with great experience and goal scoring records. He scored 50 goals in 46 matches for Bayern Munchen in the just ended season. An amazing record of 35 goals in 34 Bundesliga matches as well as 13 goals in 10 matches in the UEFA Champions League. He finished the season as the top goal scorer in the Bundesliga and helping Bayern to defend their league title.
Meanwhile Benzema won the La Liga top scorer with 27 goals in 32 matches. He went on to claim the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League with 15 goals in 12 matches. He also recorded a total of 44 goals in 46 matches.
Robert has played mostly in German and Poland; he has scored career goals of 540 in 745 matches whereas Benzema has a total of 404 goals in 773 matches. But he has also played in France and Spain.
Madrid won the La Liga and UEFA Champions League as a result of Benzema’s goal scoring prowess. He is expected to win the 2022 FIFA World Best and Ballon D’or.
Robert’s statistics is expected to match Benzema’s own to produce another mouth-watering rivalry in the Spanish La Liga therefore awaking the Messi – Ronaldo goal scoring competition.
Until recently, the two great clubs were at each other’s throat with respect to the Messi- Ronaldo rivalry. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo took the world’s goal scoring records to another level, this intensified the Barcelona – Madrid rivalry.
