SENEGAL SWEEP MOST AWARDS AT CAF AWARDS NIGHT AS MANE AND OSHOALA DEFEND TITLES RESPECTIVELY

Senegal swept most of the awards at the CAF Awards Night. The Terenga Lions were named National Team of the Year.

Star striker Sadio Mane was also named the African Best Player at the awards. The Head Coach of the Senegal National, Team, Aliou Cisse was also named Coach of the Year.

The Young Player of the Year went to Pape Matar Sarr also of Senegal. Another award for the goal of the year went to Senegalese Pape Ousmane Sakho who plays for Simba.

Senegal won the 2021 African Cup of Nations held in Cameroon. They beat the Pharoahs of Egypt on penalties.

Mane, recently signed for German giants Bayern Munchen from Liverpool. He won two major trophies with Liverpool in 2022: The English League Cup and the FA Cup.

The Gala took place in Morocco on Thursday night.

Women’s Awards

Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala won her record fifth award for Best Women’s Player. She is now the Women’s Player with most awards after leapfrogging fellow country woman, Perpetua Nkwocha. She was tied with Perpetua had already won four awards.

Ghanaian young star, Evelyn Badu also won the Women’s Young Player of the Year. She played a key role when Hasacaas Ladies conquered Women’s Football in West Africa and also in the CAF Women’s Champions League where they lost in the final.
